RiverWalk:
A Community Asset
RiverWalk is not just about development - it's about showcasing our community assets and sharing our history.

A Proud Heritage

The Camas-Washougal area is a region ripe with history. Washougal was the first settlement of American pioneers in what is now Washington state. The British laid claim to the area some 13 years before Lewis and Clark arrived.

A longtime settlement of Native Americans, the Washougal area claims the first public school operated north of the Columbia River and the first American child born in the region.

The Port has long advocated preservation of the area's history, and RiverWalk intends to continue that proud tradition.

Parkersville Site

David C. Parker was one of the first settlers along the north bank of the Columbia - at a small natural boat landing. He began homesteading at a site next to the present-day marina at the Port of Camas Washougal - founding the community of Parkersville. A thriving community in its day, it completely disappeared when the Washougal of today was founded just to the east. The site was placed on the National Historic Register in 1976.

Marina

As the largest pleasure craft marina in Washington south of Olympia, the marina is one of the more important amenities of the Port. The Port and RiverWalk intend for future development to improve and possibly add to the marina and improve its accessibility for the community.
